A new article [download pdf] by Tomás Aragón and Barbara Garcia describes Population Lean Health, an organizational change management system developed at the San Francisco Department of Public Health. The system integrates lean tools focused on process improvement such as PDSA thinking and A3 development with results-based methods that ensure strategies are based on shared vision and goals among stakeholders to improve processes, immediate outputs, and longer-term outcomes. Additional components include strategies for quality decision making, developing effective teams, and ensuring effective leadership. A variety of practical tools and theoretical frameworks are presented, along with useful references and links to instructional videos. Further information and videos can be found at the Population Health Lean website.
